Excuse me, are you Amish?
Today we drove through the Amish country and it’s truly one of the most beautiful places we have ever seen. Green fields and corn fields all located on small hills – and at the top of most hills a beautiful Amish house with a white fence and dozens of farm animals. If you’re looking for a view of authentic agricultural life – this is the place. Omri got to know some of the animals and smiled at them, and we attempted to have a chance to talk to some Amish people. They are friendly and helpful, but very shy, and probably got used to people staring at them at their own land… so all the pictures we took of them were paparazzi style – i.e. without letting them notice they appear in a picture (how thoughtful of us). Some Amish people are very traditional and look exactly like you would imagine, drive bicycles and hoarse carriages, but others drive cars, don’t look so Amish and a few women were even spotted exiting the “weight watch program” – anything more western than that?
The only thing that was a little disappointing to us was that the Amish heritage center was closed by the time we got there…we don’t wake up at dawn like the Amish…
Anyway we still want to find a heritage center and maybe have a chance to eat at another Amish restaurant (nice simple food) and we’re not even going to mention Amish desert…
