Dayton, Ohio

August 17, 2010 - August 18, 2010

Let's build an ariplane

Today we drove all the way from Mansfield, OH to Dayton, OH in one shot, it wasn't too bad as Omri was sleeping most of the drive.

Dayton is the birthplace of aviation, apparently the Wright brothers are from Dayton and there is an aviation National Park here around that.

We started our day in the US Air Force National Museum, the museum is in the Wright-Patterson air force base, a legend for itself (the air force research laboratory is here and many development are from this base). Anyway, in the museum there are lots of airplanes from different times, the interesting are: F-15, F-16, F-117, F-22, B-52, B-2, Mig-29, Black Bird - all real in full size !!

After the museum we continued to the Wright brothers memorial site, from the site there is an overlook on the flying field where they developed the world's first practical airplane. Also there is an exhibit describing the development process and a VERY interesting movie about the Wright brothers (not only they had to invent aeronautics, they had to know how to build a plane and how to fly it, consider the fact they had no formal education it is quite amazing).

Tomorrow we plan to visit the field itself and also visit the Wright brothers bike shop (they owned a bike shop).

In the evening we checked the local Cheesecake Factory, this time we also ate there. It is located in a very COOL shopping area, designed like a southern village with live music, very fun atmosphere (so different from Boston)...
